Telehealth FAQs

+ How do I book a Telehealth session?

Click here or locate the "Book Online" button in the upper right corner of the page.

+ What does a Telehealth session involve?

Telehealth sessions will begin with health intake where the practitioner will ask guided questions about the patient's main concerns in addition to an in-depth review of health systems for new patients. Patients will be given an acupressure point prescription. The patient may also receive a combination of the following: a custom or patented herbal formula, dietary, lifestyle, stretching, exercise and meditation advice.

It is a wonderful option for those who are unable to come in to the clinic due to remote living or illness.

Acupuncture FAQs

+ How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture achieves the desired results by stimulating electrically sensitive points located close to the surface of the skin. This activates the sensory receptors specific to that point. The chain reaction unfolds from here: nerves are stimulated to send signals to the hypothalamic-pituitary system in the brain, which is the area of the brain responsible for producing neurotransmitters and endorphins. The western science recognizes acupuncture to be highly effective in boosting immunity, increasing circulation, stimulating the opioid system, and altering brain chemistry.

Points have specific functions and actions that are related to their meridian's organ system and the channel's associated tissues and location. For example, acupuncture point Tai Yuan, or Lung 9, is located on the Lung meridian and strengthens the Lungs, treats asthma, cough, boosts immunity, and alleviates wrist and arm pain along the channel.

Points are activated by inserting a needle, applying pressure, moxabustion or electrical stimulation. These actions stimulate the nervous system to generate powerful and targeted physiological and biochemical changes in the body. Acupuncture can be seen too as a great housekeeper for the nervous system and soul as it clears out unproductive or obsolete "memories" of life experiences or "programs" it may be running, like chronic anxiety or cycles of grief. It can help release stuck emotions and trauma stored in the body by regulating the nervous system and harmonizing the spirit.

+ Are there spiritual aspects of acupuncture?

Yes. East Asian medicine is a multifaceted system of knowledge, lifestyle and treatment that has roots in Taoism and Confucianism. It addresses layers of being, which can be referred to as "bodies", beyond the body, including mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies of the individual which each play impactful roles in ones physical health. Theoretical and modern western sciences are slowly gaining understanding of this wisdom of the east. The acknowledgement and comprehension of these energetic fields enables us to work with them to generate greater health, power or life-force, creativity, joy, and peace.

+ Can I get treated without receiving acupuncture?

Yes. Acupuncture points can be stimulated with pressure, energy, or by burning Mugwort, or moxa, over points (moxabustion). There are many supportive methods of treatment like bodywork and cupping that can be effective for treating for acute and superficial ailments. Visit the supportive therapies page to read more about our clinic's offerings. For more serious internal disharmonies, however, acupuncture is preferred to acupressure and other supportive therapies as it works on a deeper level.

Chinese herbalism is a comprehensive branch of the medicine and can be employed in place of (or in addition to) acupuncture, should that be the patient's preference.

+ How long does a session last?

Typically 1-1.5 hours. When you come in for your first treatment, a complete review of systems will be conducted. Then a treatment plan will be formulated and you will receive a treatment. The session generally takes 1.5 hours, but may require more time depending on the complexity of your case. Subsequent sessions may be booked for 1 or 1.5 hours. Longer sessions allow for more supportive therapies like cupping, Craniosacral therapy, and guided meditation. Most patients at our clinic enjoy the holistic combination of practices that compliment one another and increase overall outcome, and therefore opt for longer sessions.

+ How many sessions will I need?

The number and frequency of treatments varies  related to the nature and severity of your case. A typical series is 6-12 treatments, however, acute conditions like a sprain or sinus infection may only take 2-3 treatments, whereas chronic issues such as endometriosis or diabetic peripheral neuropathy may take a dozen (or several dozen) treatments to resolve.

In the beginning of your treatment course, it may be recommended that you come in 2-3 times a week. Frequency may be decreased to once a week as the conditions proves to be resolving. Once optimal results are realized, treatments may be slowed down to twice or once a month.

Plan ahead, invest in your health, and save when you purchase a 10-session package!
